The present invention relates to wound dressings having a wound contacting layer that contains a wound healing composition and which is adapted to maintain a temperature different from ambient, for example achieve and maintain a heat-absorbing effect on the underlying tissues. The specific physico-chemical structure of the devices of the invention allows fluid con-tainment and absorption of wound secretions whilst avoiding skin macerations.
