A handheld electronic device adapted to display a listing of known networks, scan for available networks, display a listing of the available networks and enable the entry of information relating to manually entered networks. In addition, the device is adapted to (1) enable the addition of preferred networks to a preferred network list wherein the preferred networks are one or more of (i) certain of the known networks selected from the listing of known networks, (ii) certain of the available networks selected from the listing of available networks, and (iii) the manually entered networks; (2) enable the assignment of a priority value to each of the preferred networks; and (3) utilize the preferred networks for performing wireless communications when the device is in a roaming situation, wherein the preferred networks are utilized in a priority order that is based on the priority value assigned to each of the preferred networks.
Un dispositif électronique portatif adapté pour afficher une liste de réseaux connus, explore les réseaux disponibles, affiche la liste des réseaux disponibles et assure l'entrée de l'information relative aux réseaux entrés manuellement. De plus, le dispositif est adapté pour 1) valider l'ajout des réseaux préférés à une liste de réseaux préférés dans laquelle les réseaux préférés sont un ou plusieurs de I) certains des réseaux connus sélectionnés à partir de la liste des réseaux connus, de ii) certains des réseaux disponibles sélectionnés à partir de la liste des réseaux disponibles, et des iii) réseaux entrés manuellement; pour 2) valider l'affectation d'un valeur prioritaire à chacun des réseaux préférés; et pour 3) utiliser les réseaux préférés pour effectuer des communications sans fil, lorsque le dispositif est en situation d'itinérance, dans laquelle les réseaux préférés sont utilisés par ordre prioritaire basé sur la valeur de priorité affectée à chacun des réseaux préférés.
