An apparatus for the temporary storage and controlled feeding of volatile fuel components present in the unfilled space of a fuel tank into the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine has a vent line which connects the unfilled space with the atmosphere and includes a storage canister with an absorption element. A conduit connects the storage canister with the intake manifold. The conduit is closable by a valve and the intake manifold includes a throttle valve mounted on a throttle control shaft. The valve includes a valve closure element which is operably linked to the throttle control shaft. The apparatus does not include expensive electronic and electromechanical components or sensors, is of a relatively simple construction and is mechanically operated which provides for a more cost efficient manufacture and installation as well as excellent operating characteristics for a long service period.
