A novel method, system and tool for performing formation and well evaluation while drilling are disclosed. These inventions determine the properties of a particular formation (F) within a reservoir as the reservoir is being intersected during well construction. In one form of the invention, the formation evaluation is made using a direct measurement of the formation's ability to flow fluids. The flow potential of a reservoir during underbalanced well construction is determined as the well is being constructed. The methods produce an understanding of the volumes and types of the fluids such as oil, gas, and/or water, that can be produced out of discrete sections of a formation within a reservoir as the reservoir is intersected. The trajectory and path of the wellbore through the reservoir are modified to intersect formation having more desirable permeability and productivity to decrease the time to market of the hydrocarbon reserves within a reservoir without the time delay inherent when conventional formation evaluation techniques are applied. A downhole flow measurement instrument (27) is used to obtain actual flow ratios. The instrument is integrated into a near-bit stabilizer (12) and can be used for early kick and benign "breathing" fractures detection in the open hole wellbore.

Cette invention concerne un procédé, un système et un outil permettant d'évaluer une formation et un puits pendant le forage. Il s'agit ici de déterminer les propriétés d'une formation particulière (F) au sein d'un gisement lorsque celui-ci est percé pendant la construction d'un puits. Selon un mode de réalisation, l'évaluation de la formation consiste à mesurer directement la capacité de cette formation à laisser s'écouler des fluides. Ce potentiel de débit pendant la construction déséquilibrée du puits est déterminé pendant la construction. Grâce à ces techniques, il est possible d'apprécier les volumes et les types de fluides pétrole, gaz et/ou eau susceptibles d'être extraits de parties distinctes d'une formation lors de l'attaque du gisement. On modifie la trajectoire et le trajet du puits au travers du gisement de manière à atteindre la formation la plus favorable en termes de perméabilité et de productivité de manière et d'accélérer la commercialisation des réserves d'hydrocarbures dans le gisement sans les retards inhérents à l'emploi de techniques classiques d'évaluation des formations. On utilise un instrument de mesure des débits en fond de trou (27) pour l'obtention de données réelles de débit. L'instrument, qui est intégré à un stabilisateur porte-outil (12), peut s'utiliser pour la détection précoce de sauts et de fractures légères de <= respiration >= dans le puits de forage ouvert.
