Abstract An airborne imaging system capable of displaying on a visual display unit (VDU) an accurate representation of the ou?side world. The system enables the pilot to fly an aircraft without having any direct visual contact with the outside world. A computer generated image of stored geographical data is continually updated by information from aircraft-mounted sensors. In a preferred embodiment, images representing scene features such as pylons, bridges, roads, etc are accessed from a look-up table and overlaid on the VDU picture.
