A process is disclosed for a continuous, high temperature polymerization process for preparing a free radically polymerized epoxy-functional polymeric product. The process comprises continuously charging into a reactor at least one epoxy-functional acrylic monomer, and optionally at least one non-functional free radical polymerizable monomer. An optional free radical polymerization initiator may also be added. The reactor is maintained at an effective temperature for an effective period of time to cause polymerization of the monomers into a polymeric product, such that the polymeric product is formed substantially free of gel particles. A clear coating is also disclosed incorporating polymers of the present invention, such that the clear coating has a low Delta b value at standard conditions.
L'invention se rapporte à procédé de polymérisation à haute température et en continu destiné à la préparation d'un produit polymère à fonctionnalité époxy obtenu par polymérisation radicalaire. Ledit procédé consiste à charger en continu dans un réacteur au moins un monomère acrylique à fonctionnalité époxy, et éventuellement au moins un monomère susceptible de subir une polymérisation radicalaire et non fonctionnel. Un amorceur de polymérisation radicalaire peut également être ajouté de manière facultative. Le réacteur est maintenu à une température efficace pendant une période suffisante pour provoquer la polymérisation des monomères en un produit polymère, de sorte que le produit polymère formé ne contient pas de particules de gel. L'invention se rapporte également à un revêtement transparent qui comporte les polymères décrits ci-dessus et possède une faible valeur Delta b dans des conditions normales.
