This invention involves a switching element consisting of several input ports and at least one output port, a space routing mechanism and a cell memory in which cells are stored that can be classified on the basis of at least one specific characteristic. The transmission element in question features: a means of using the said characteristic to selectively access the cells contained in the said cell memory, a probability memory that associates a probability p with each possible value i of the said caracteristic, a server that chooses the cell to transmit from among those stored in the said cell memory on the basis of the probabilities (p ) contained in the probability memory and whether or not there is a cell in the cell memory for each value (i) of the said characteristic.

L'invention concerne un élément de commutation comportant une pluralité de ports d'entrée et au moins un port de sortie, un mécanisme de commutation spatiale et une mémoire de cellules dans laquelle sont stockées les cellules, lesdites cellules pouvant être classifiées selon au moins une caractéristique donnée.
