A method of expanding a tubular element (32) is provided, the tubular element having a first portion to be expanded to a first inner diameter and a second portion to be expanded to a second inner diameter larger than the first inner diameter. The method comprises: a) arranging an expandable sleeve (36) of selected wall thickness in said second tubular element portion; b) positioning an expander (1) in the tubular element; c) operating the expander so as to expand said first tubular element portion to the first inner diameter, and operating the expander so as to expand the sleeve to an inner diameter substantially equal to the second inner diameter minus double the wall thickness of the sleeve; and d) retrieving the sleeve (36) from the tubular element (32) .

L'invention concerne l'expansion d'un élément tubulaire (32), cet élément tubulaire ayant une première portion à expanser à un premier diamètre intérieur, et une seconde portion à expanser à un second diamètre intérieur, plus grand que le premier diamètre intérieur. Le procédé comprend les étapes suivantes : a) mise en place d'un manchon extensible (36), d'épaisseur de paroi sélectionnée dans ladite seconde portion d'élément tubulaire ; b) positionnement d'un expanseur (1) dans l'élément tubulaire ; c) actionnement de l'expanseur, de manière à expanser ladite première portion d'élément tubulaire au premier diamètre intérieur, et actionnement de l'expanseur, de manière à expanser le manchon à un diamètre intérieur sensiblement égal au second diamètre intérieur, moins le double de l'épaisseur de paroi du manchon ; et d) retrait du manchon (36) de l'élément tubulaire (32).
