2121044 9307359 PCTABS00021 A mobile mining machine (10) has a wheel-like cutterhead assembly (12) supported by a pitch boom assembly (20). A swing boom assembly (24) supports the pitch boom assembly (20). In one embodiment the swing boom assembly (24) has a pivot axis that is tilted from vertical and swings the cutterhead (12) and the pitch boom (28). A gripper assembly (120) having a floor gripper shoe (134) and a roof gripper shoe (132) brace the mobile mining machine. Thrust is provided by thrust cylinders (164) located between the gripper shoes (132, 134) and the main beam (26). Extension of the thrust cylinders (164) moves the cutterhead assembly (12), main beam (26), and rear portion of the mobile mining machine (10) forward relative to the gripper assembly (120) due to slidable engagement of the main beam (26) and gripper assembly (120). During re-gripping, the gripper cylinders (124, 126) and thrust cylinders (164) are retracted, causing forward movement of the gripper assembly (120) with respect to the main beam (26) and rear portion of the machine (10).
