A sandwich packaging structure for use in wrapping a sandwich includes a sheet of paper wrap that is to be wrapped around the sandwich to enclose the sandwich, and a piece of support material having a greater rigidity than the sheet of paper wrap. The support material is secured to the sheet of paper wrap and is adapted to be folded with respect to the sandwich positioned on the packaging structure to impart structural rigidity to the wrapped sandwich. The support member is preferably in the form of a paperboard frame. The support member can be an elongated strip that is adapted to extend across opposite sides of sandwich as well as the top and/or bottom of the sandwich Alternatively, the support member can be in the form of a band that encircles the periphery of the sandwich. The support member can also be cruciform in shape to extend across the top or bottom of the sandwich and form four upstanding sidewalls that enclose the sandwich.
