The present invention provides a method and system for mitigating fading and/or poor reception at a receiver. The receiver includes an antenna diversity mechanism which can be operated in a variety of antenna configurations each of which can provide different reception characteristics. The receiver evaluates the reception quality of the radio signal with the antenna in a first configuration and with the antenna in at least a second configuration and selects the antenna configuration that has the best evaluated reception for use until a subsequent iteration, when the process is repeated. The antenna configurations can correspond to configurations wherein reception is favored in different directions or to configurations wherein different antennas are selected, each antenna being spaced from each other antenna. The method can also improve the reception of a signal transmitted by selecting an antenna configuration for transmissions which provides improved reception quality at the destination receiver.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant d'atténuer un évanouissement et/ou une mauvaise réception au niveau d'un récepteur. Le récepteur comprend un mécanisme de diversité d'antenne pouvant fonctionner dans une variété de configurations d'antenne, chaque antenne pouvant présenter des caractéristiques de réception différentes. Le récepteur permet d'évaluer la qualité de réception du signal radio avec l'antenne dans une première configuration, et avec l'antenne dans au moins une seconde configuration, et de sélectionner la configuration d'antenne présentant la meilleure réception évaluée pour une utilisation jusqu'à une itération ultérieure, lorsque ce procédé est répété. Les configurations d'antenne peuvent correspondre à des configurations dans lesquelles la réception est favorisée dans différentes directions ou à des configurations dans lesquelles différentes antennes sont sélectionnées, chaque antenne étant séparée des autres. Le procédé permet également d'améliorer la réception d'un signal transmis par la sélection d'une configuration d'antenne pour des transmissions permettant d'obtenir une qualité de réception améliorée au niveau du récepteur de destination.
