A polisher has an offset axis and a friction cam useful in a method of polishing that comprises a more random, elongated polishing pattern than known orbital polishers and is capable of portable use using a 9 volt battery. The method is capable of using lower contact pressures between fiber ends and a polishing surface and higher rates of rotation of the drive mechanism, reducing the polishing time for preparing fiber ends for applications. The polishing pattern changes when pressure is applied between a fiber end and the polishing surface. The fiber end provides one intermittent axis of rotation and the friction cam provides another intermittent axis of rotation.
La présente invention concerne un polissoir à axe décalé et mordache convenant pour un procédé de polissage utilisant un parcours de polissage plus aléatoire et plus allongé que les polissoirs orbitaux connus, et qui peut s'utiliser comme outil portable grâce à une alimentation par batterie ou pile 9 volts. Le procédé permet des pressions de contact inférieures entre les extrémités des fibres et la surface de polissage, et des vitesses de rotation du mécanisme d'entraînement plus élevées, ce qui réduit la durée du polissage nécessaire à la préparation des extrémités de fibres pour les applications. Le parcours de polissage se modifie à l'application d'une pression entre une extrémité de fibre et la surface de polissage.
