Left and right stereo audio information is reproduced from a compatible quadrature amplitude modulation (C-QUAM) broadcast using a simplified approximation to true C-QUAM decoding. A synchronous detection approximation is used which avoids generating an envelope signal or calculating a cosine correction factor as in true C-QUAM decoding. The method requires less intensive computation power thereby allowing a digital signal processor to perform other functions at the same time. The method produces no perceivable distortion or artifacts when reproducing normal broadcast material.

Les informations audio stéréo de droite et de gauche sont reproduites à partir d'une émission à modulation d'amplitude en quadrature (C-QUAM) compatible, au moyen d'une approximation simplifiée du décodage réel C-QUAM. Une approximation de détection synchrone est utilisée, qui empêche la génération d'un signal d'enveloppe ou le calcul d'un facteur de correction cosinusoïdal comme dans le décodage réel C-QUAM. Ledit procédé nécessite une puissance de calcul moins importante, ce qui permet à un processeur de signal numérique d'exécuter d'autres fonction simultanément. Ledit procédé ne produit pas de distorsion ou d'artéfacts perceptibles lors de la reproduction de matière radiodiffusée normale.
