A method of enhancing sound heard by a hearing-impaired listener comprises monitoring the sound in an environment in which the listener is located; and manipulating the frequency of high frequency components of the sound in a high frequency band, with little, if any, distortion to components of the sound in a speech frequency band, to enhance spectral cues to aid the listener in sound externalisation and spatialisation.

L'invention concerne un procédé visant à renforcer les sons perçus par un malentendant et qui comprend les étapes consistant à surveiller le son dans un environnement dans lequel se trouve la personne ; et traiter la fréquence des composantes haute fréquence du son dans une bande de hautes fréquences en n'engendrant que peu ou pas de distorsion dans les composantes du son comprises dans une bande de fréquences vocales, afin d'améliorer les clés spectrales facilitant l'externalisation et la spatialisation du son pour ladite personne.
