A diabetes care system has a mobile component (2) the mobile component (2) being wearable on the body or implantable in the body, and a base station (3). A data transmission occurs between the mobile component (2) and the base station (3) within a time interval in which a wireless communication link exists. The data transmission is selectively performed so that within a first time inter-val a first partial set of the data is transmitted which is selected using a proc-essor-controlled selection algorithm so that the data transmitted in the first time is representative of the entirety of the data stored in the mobile compo-nent (2). A method for selective data transmission within such a system is per-formed.
