A support member (8) configured for attachment to a back assembly (3) and a chair component is disclosed. One disclosed embodiment of the support member (8) may be included in a chair (1) that includes a base (9), a back assembly (3) and the support member (8). The back assembly (3) includes an extension (6) attached to a back frame (4). The extension (6) is attached to the base (9) such that the back assembly (3) is moveable relative to the base (9). The support member (8) is attached to the extension (6) and the base (9). The support member (8) is more rigid than the extension (6). Preferably, the extension (6) is composed of elastomeric material.
