A connector (1) for an apparatus for reading smart cards (C), comprising a body supporting brush contact elements (BC1, BCX) for electrically contacting the conductive pads of a chip on a card (C) inserted into the connector. The connector comprises an electronic circuit connected to at least some of the brush contact elements (B) and connectable to the electronic circuit of the card reader. The electronic circuit on the connector comprises means for controlling the insertion of the card (C) into the card reader and its withdrawal therefrom, and one of the brush contact elements (BCX) is at a second predetermined potential and offset in relation to the other brush contact elements (BC1) so that once the card (C) has been properly inserted into the connector, one of two events occurs when the card is withdrawn and before the other brush contact elements are disengaged from the conductive pads (C1) of the card (C) that they are contacting. Specifically, either the brush contact element (BC1) at said predetermined potential and the brush contact element at a so-called earth potential are short-circuited, or said second potential varies with a magnitude no smaller than a predetermined threshold.

Il comporte un circuit électronique relié, d'une part, avec au moins une partie desdits éléments de contacts balais (B) et destiné à être relié, d'autre part, avec le circuit électronique du lecteur de carte, le circuit électronique porté par le connecteur comportant des moyens pour contrôler des opérations d'insertion ou de retrait de la carte (C) dans le lecteur de carte et l'un (B CX) desdits éléments de contacts balais porté à un second potentiel déterminé, est décalé par rapport aux autres éléments de contacts balais (B C1), de manière à ce que, après insertion correcte de la carte (C) dans le connecteur, un des deux événements suivants se réalise lors d'un retrait de la carte du connecteur, avant que les autres éléments de contacts balais ne quittent les plages de contacts (C1) de la carte (C) avec lesquelles ils sont en contact: la mise on court-circuit dudit élément de balais (B C1) porté au potentiel déterminé et dudit élément de balais porté au potentiel dit de masse; ou la variation déterminée dudit second potentiel, d'une amplitude atteignant un seuil déterminé.
