The present invention provides a method of providing neuroprotection to a mammal comprising administering to said mammal suffering from or at risk of suffering a noxious action on its nerve cells an effective amount of dantrolene, a ryanodine antagonist, to inhibit or prevent nerve cell injury or death.

L'invention porte sur un procédé fournissant une protection neuronale à un mammifère consistant à administrer au mammifère souffrant ou risquant de souffrir d'une action nocive sur ses cellules nerveuses, une quantité efficace d'un antagoniste de ryanodine, e.g. dantrolène, afin d'inhiber ou de prévenir les lésions ou la mort des cellules nerveuses.
