Fuel compositions containing a major amount of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and an effective deposit-controlling amount of a poly(oxyalkylene) aromatic ether having formula (I) where A1 is nitro, amino, N-alkylamino wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or N,N- dialkylamino wherein each alkyl group independently contains 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy; R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl and each R3 and R4 is independently selected in each -O-CHR3-CHR4- unit; R5 is hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 100 carbon atoms, phenyl, aralkyl having 7 to 100 carbon atoms or alkaryl having 7 to 100 carbon atoms, or an acyl group of formula (a) where R6 is alkyl having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, phenyl, aralkyl having 7 to 36 carbon atoms or alkaryl having 7 to 36 carbon atoms; n is an integer from 5 to 100; and x is an integer from 0 to 10.

R¿5? est un hydrogène, alkyle comportant de 1 à 100 atomes de carbone, phényle, aralcoyle comportant de 7 à 100 atomes de carbone, ou un aralcoyle comportant de 7 à 100 atomes de carbone, ou encore un groupe acyle correspondant à la formule générale (a). Dans cette formule, R¿6? est un alkyle comportant 1 à 30 atomes de carbone, phényle, aralcoyle comportant 7 à 36 atomes de carbone ou alkaryle comportant 7 à 36 atomes de carbone. "n" est un nombre entier de 5 à 100, et "x" est un nombre entier de 0 à 10.
