The invention relates to a method of changing an anode of a cell for the production of aluminium by means of fused-salt electrolysis (2), said cell comprising a plurality of anodes (20, 20'). The inventive method comprises the following steps consisting in: (i) using at least one anode handling tool (13) comprising a positioning member (13b), a gripping member (13a) and a vertical position sensor for grip member and using said position sensor in order to measure the distances travelled vertically by the gripping member (13a) in relation to a reference level N; and (ii) producing at least one electromagnetic or sound wave beam (51) in an axis or a determined reference plane (50) and using the passage of the anode through said beam in order to measure the aforementioned distances. The method also consists in determining the vertical position of the replacement anode in the cell from the values obtained for said distances and placing the replacement anode in said position in the location initially occupied by the used anode (20').

L'invention a pour objet un procédé de changement d'anode d'une cellule de production d'aluminium par électrolyse ignée (2) comportant une pluralité d'anodes (20, 20'). Selon l'invention, d'une part, on utilise au moins un outil de manutention d'anode (13) comprenant un organe de positionnement (13b), un organe de préhension (13a) et un capteur de position verticale de l'organe de préhension et on utilise le capteur de position pour mesurer les distances parcourues verticalement par l'organe de préhension (13a) par rapport à un niveau de référence N, et, d'autre part, on produit au moins un faisceau d'ondes sonores ou électromagnétiques (51) dans un axe ou un plan de référence déterminé (50) et on utilise le passage de l'anode dans ledit faisceau pour mesurer lesdites distances. On détermine la position verticale de l'anode de remplacement dans la cellule à partir des valeurs obtenues pour lesdites distances parcourues et on place l'anode de remplacement à cette position dans l'emplacement initialement occupé par l'anode usée (20').
