ABSTRACT In industrial refrigeration units as used in malls and office buildings for air conditioning, there is a main component called the "Chiller Unit". The Chiller Unit is very basically a liquid to liquid inter-cooler comprised of a large steel box with tubes running the length of it. These tubes require periodic maintenance which involves removal of large end plates which weigh approximately 500 lbs. These plates are bolted to the ends of the chiller unit. Until this time, the plates have been removed by two methods. One method requires using a blocks and tackle, rope or chain, the nearest roof beam or member, and at least two men. The other method involves pieces of rope or chain, and three to four men to manually lift the plate. In this invention, a crane like device called a "Chiller Unit End Plate Boom Device" mounts to the Chiller Unit and to the Chiller Unit End Plate and, via a chain, cable, block and tackle or come along, suspends and holds the end plate. Once the End Plate is unbolted, the device's "Boom" rotates in its base to effectively swivel the End Plate out of the way so that maintenance can be carried out. Replacement of the end plate is simply a reverse of these procedures. All of these procedures can be safely and quickly carried out by one man.
