A method for fastening components (18, 20) at critical joints in a motor vehicle powertrain. An unthreaded hole (22) is provided in a first component part (20), and a clearance hole (16) in a second component part (18). The shank (14) of a screw (10) that has a multi-lobed lead capable of creating a thread in the unthreaded hole is passed through the clearance hole to engage the multi-lobed lead with the unthreaded hole. Axial force and rotary torque are applied to the screw to cause the lead to form a desired helical thread in the unthreaded hole.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour fixer des composants (18, 20) au niveau de joints critiques dans un groupe motopropulseur d'automobile (24). Un alésage non fileté (22) est ménagé dans une première pièce de composant (20) et un alésage de dégagement (16) est ménagé dans une seconde pièce de composant (18). La tige (14) d'une vis (10) qui présente un pas à plusieurs lobes capable de créer un filetage dans l'alésage non fileté est passée à travers l'alésage de dégagement afin d'engager le pas à plusieurs lobes avec l'alésage non fileté. Une force axiale et un couple de rotation sont appliqués sur la vis et forcent le pas à former un filetage hélicoïdal souhaité dans l'alésage non fileté.
