ABSTRACT PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR THE CONTINUOUS DRYING OF WOOD SHAVINGS, WOOD FIBRES OR OTHER BULK MATERIALS The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the continuous drying of wood shavings, wood fibres or other bulk materials, in which the heat of combustion gases produced in a combustion chamber is utilized in a drier supplied with the material to be dried. The inventive process is characterized in that the combustion gas-free vapours leaving the drier are recycled to the latter and upstream of the drier are indirectly heated by the combustion gases leaving the combustion chamber to the temperature necessary for drying the material to be dried and a partial vapour flow is branched off from this circuit and led to the combustion chamber. In the apparatus for performing the process from the cyclone or cyclones (12) used for separating the drying material a pipe (13) for the vapours returns to the drier (8), that the pipe (13) contains a heat exchanger (7) for the indirect heating of the vapours by the combustion gases leaving the combustion chamber (1) and that a branch line (6) to the combustion chamber (1) branches off from the pipe (13) upstream of the heat exchanger (7) in the flow direction. The invention makes it possible with limited expenditure to respect lower than prescribed pollutant emission limits, whilst increasing efficiency and decreasing the explosion risks.
