A recording apparatus comprises an ink container provided with a container side electrical contact; a holder for detachably mounting the ink container; a cover which is openable for mounting and demounting the ink container; and signal sending means for sending an actuation signal to the holder side electrical contact when the cover is opened. The holder is provided with a holder side electrical contact electrically connectable to the container side electrical contact. The ink container includes a light emitting portion for emitting light which is visible by an operator and a controller for actuating the light emitting portion in response to input of the actuation signal through the holder side electrical contact, in the state that the cover is open, when the container side electrical contact is electrically connected to the holder side electrical contact. The controller causes the light emitting portion to emit light in response to the actuation signal received thereby to visually notify completion of mounting of the ink container to the holder.
