ABSTRACT This invention relates to a method for lowering the incidence of unwanted side effects associated with the treatment of a general population with a therapeutic agent known to have undesirable side effects. More particularly, this application relates to a method for using a statistical model to predict the probability of an occurrence for a particular individual within a patient population, then using the probability todetermine the risk to the individual patient and refraining from treatment if the risk of developing an undesirable side effect is too great. Additionally, this invention relates to a method for obtaining the statistical model used in the process described above.
