Production of unsaturated aldehydes by the aldol condensation of straight chain aldehydes, e.g. butyraldehyde, by contacting the aldehyde in the vapour phase with a particulate catalyst comprising at least one basic alkali metal compound supported on an inert substrate at a temperature above 175 ~C.

L'invention concerne la production d'aldéhydes non saturés. Le procédé selon l'invention assure la condensation d'aldol d'aldéhydes à chaîne droite, par exemple, du butyraldéhyde, en plaçant l'aldéhyde en phase vapeur en contact avec un catalyseur particulaire qui comprend au moins un composé de métal alcalin basique supporté sur un substrat inerte à une température supérieure à 175 ·C.
