-13- ABSTRACT: A rotary joint assembly (as shown in Figure 3) has a casing 70. Coolant is supplied via inlet nipple 74 to pipe 72 and returns via passage 96 to exit from outlet nipple 80. Casing 70 secures the rotary joint assembly to a rotary body (not shown) to which coolant is to be supplied. A bearer 94 is connected to the rotary body by a flange 100. A stationary water seal 110, for example of nitrile, acts as both the seal and bearing for the rotary joint. A grease seal 108 isolates the grease of the rotary body from the coolant supply. A bush 82 is screw-threaded into the casing 70 to carry the water and grease seals 110, 108 respectively. No rotating seals are employed and the joint assembly can be secured to the rotary body directly. The rotary joint can provide single or two-way flow. The joint may also be made with the outer casing made in two parts (frontispiece and end piece) and without bush 82. The casing 70 of the rotary joint assembly may be made of mild steel and the rotor/bearer 94 may be chromium plated stainless steel.
