Image data is processed on a single processing chip corresponding to a physical image selected from a group consisting of optical codes, one- dimensional symbologies, two-dimensional symbologies and three-dimensional symbologies. An optical reading apparatus having a focal plane is used for the processing. The image data is searched for a series of coherent bars and spaces. Textual data is identified. A subset of the data containing meaningful data is determined. An angle of said physical image with respect to the focal plane is determined. Sub-pixel interpolation is performed to generate output data corresponding to the physical image.
