An anaesthetic vaporiser 1 of the by-pass type includes a vaporising chamber 12 containing an anaesthetic agent which at normal atmospheric pressure has a boiling point of approximately 25°C. The vaporising chamber 12 is surrounded by thermal insulation 18 to prevent uncontrolled boiling of the anaesthetic agent.
