A thread (1) for constructing a vascular stent which is to be introduced into a vessel and retained therein. This thread is formed by melt-spinning a biodegradable polymer and a drug-containing layer (2) made of the same biodegradable polymer as the biodegradable polymer constituting the thread is formed on the surface of the thread.
