A channel configuration of a digital mobile communications system comprises two or more lower-rate transmission channels for each high-speed radio interface traffic channel between a base station (BTS) and an interworking function (IWF). Radio frames, such as EDGE frames, are transmitted over a radio interface traffic channel. Transmission frames, such as TRAU frames, are transmitted on transmission channels. The base station (BTS) and the interworking function (IWF) provide the transmission frames to be transmitted with frame and/or channel numbering which indicates the order of the transmitted frames and/or the transmission channel via whichthe transmission frame was transmitted. According to the invention, the base station (BTS) does not restore the order of the downlink transmission frames on the basis of said frame and/or channel numbering but it places the data of the transmission frames and at least the frame and/or channel numbering in the payload of the downlink radio frame to be transmitted. Instead, the mobile station (MS), which extracts the data and the frame and/or channel numbering of the transmission frames from the downlink radio frames, restores the correct order of the data on the basis of this numbering. The invention simplifies the structure of a base station.

L'invention se rapporte à un système de communication mobile, numérique, conçu de manière à comporter au moins deux canaux de transmission à faible débit pour chaque canal de trafic à interface radio grande vitesse entre une station de base (BTS) et une fonction d'interconnexion (IWF). Les trames radio, telles que les trames EDGE, sont transmises sur un canal de trafic à interface radio. Les trames de transmission, telles que les trames TRAU, sont transmises sur les canaux de transmission. La station de base (BTS) et la fonction d'interconnexion (IWF) assurent la transmission des trames de transmission avec un numérotage des trames et/ou des canaux qui sert à indiquer l'ordre des trames et/ou le canal de transmission sur lequel la trame de transmission a été transmise. Conformément à cette invention, la station de base (BTS) ne restaure pas l'ordre des trames de transmission descendantes en fonction dudit numérotage des trames et/ou des canaux mais elle place les données des trames de transmission et au moins le numérotage de la trame et/ou du canal dans les données utiles de la trame radio descendante à transmettre. La station mobile (MS), par contre, qui extrait les données et le numérotage des trames et/ou canaux des trames de transmission, restaure l'ordre correct des données en fonction de ce numérotage. Cette invention simplifie la structure d'une station de base.
