ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the preparation of 2,3-dihydro-1H-1,4- benzodiazepine derivatives which are useful as sedatives, anti- convulsants and muscle relaxants, and represented by the formula (I), Image (I) wherein R is lower alkyl and X is halogen and their pharmaceut- ically acceptable acid addition salts, which comprises reducing oxime derivatives of the formula (II), Image (II) wherein R and X are each as defined above and hydrolyzing the resultants with an acid.
