The invention provides an improved apparatus and method for cross-correlation, which, for example, may be used to locate sources of energy in a medium, such as radio frequency (RF) pulses. A preferred embodiment applies a cross- correlation algorithm to two signals in which it is believed there is a common source signal. In a particularly preferred embodiment a weighting function is used to provide an indication of the probability of a measurement in a signal being a true measurement or an artefact.
