ABSTRACT The present invention is a brake arrangement for a transmission. On one of the shafts of the transmission drive train, a brake disc is rotatably fixed and axially movable so that adjacent friction pucks may be pressed into the disc and retard the speed of the drive train. The transmission housing includes openings which allow access to the friction pucks, so that dismantling the housing is not required to replace the friction pucks. Specifically, by removing the pressing pins, the disc may move axially allowing access to one friction puck through one of the openings, and after removal the disc may again move axially allowing access to a second friction puck through the other opening. For replacement, simply reverse the removal steps using new friction pucks. To help stiffen the backing plate of the puck which are pressed by the pins, the backing plate is provided with an upper flange which also distributes the pressing force of the pins more uniformly over the surface of the friction puck.
