Flame retardant polyamide are provided which contain melamine as the flame retardant and a phenolic-aldehyde resin as a melamine compatibilizer and volatility control agent during subsequent compounding and molding of the compositions. Such compositions have a good fire rating and retain their physical and electrical properties.
