A multi-layer catheter tube section providing gradually increasing flexibility. One catheter tube section has a first, inner layer formed of a flexible material and a second, outer layer formed of a stiffer material. The outer layer tapers distally, having decreasing layer thickness with increasing distal position. The decreasing wall thickness provides a decreasing stiffness contribution which imparts increasing flexibility to the catheter portions having a smaller outer layer. The tube sections can be joined end to end to form longer catheter regions having a greater number of gradual flexibility changes.
On décrit une longueur de tube de cathéter multicouche qui assure une flexibilité à augmentation graduelle. Une longueur de tube de cathéter comporte une première couche interne constituée d'une matériau flexible et une deuxième couche externe formée d'un matériau plus rigide. La couche externe se réduit vers l'extrémité distale, l'épaisseur de la couche diminuant lorsqu'elle se rapproche de la position distale. L'épaisseur de la paroi qui va diminuant assure une réduction de la rigidité qui confère une meilleure flexibilité aux longueurs de cathéter ayant une couche externe plus fine. Les longueurs de tube peuvent être raccordées bout à bout pour former des régions de cathéter plus longues présentant un nombre supérieur de variations graduelles de la flexibilité.
