A direction adjustment tool (2) for a downhole drilling apparatus is disclosed. The tool has a tubular housing (8) adapted to be incorporated into a downhole drilling apparatus, and steering blades (10) mounted to the housing. A drive shaft (16) transmits drive to a drill bit of a drilling apparatus, wherein the shaft defines a passage for transmitting drilling fluid to the drill bit. A first pressure chamber (32) is defined between the housing and the shaft and communicates with the passage, wherein the steering blades are moved from retracted positions to extended positions thereof as a result of increase of fluid pressure the first pressure chamber. A pendulum member (54) is pivotably mounted to extend in a vertical orientation when the shaft is not rotating relative to the housing, and pistons (60) prevent movement of at least one steering blade to the extended position thereof as a result of the angle between a longitudinal axis of the shaft and the longitudinal axis of the pendulum member exceeding a predetermined amount. This causes at least one steering blade to adjust the direction of drilling of the drilling apparatus towards a vertical direction and/or to resist movement of the direction of drilling away from a vertical direction.
L'invention concerne un outil de réglage de direction (2) pour un appareil de forage de fond de trou. L'outil comporte un boîtier tubulaire (8) apte à être incorporé dans un appareil de forage de fond de trou, et des lames de direction (10) montées sur le boîtier. Un arbre d'entraînement (16) transmet un entraînement à un trépan d'un appareil de forage, l'arbre définissant un passage pour transmettre un fluide de forage au trépan. Une première chambre de pression (32) est définie entre le boîtier et l'arbre et communique avec le passage, les lames de direction étant déplacées de positions rétractées à des positions étendues de celles-ci par suite d'une augmentation de pression de fluide dans la première chambre de pression. Un élément de pendule (54) est monté pivotant afin de s'étendre selon une orientation verticale lorsque l'arbre ne tourne pas par rapport au boîtier, et des pistons (60) empêchent un déplacement d'au moins une lame de direction vers la position étendue de celle-ci par suite du dépassement par l'angle entre un axe longitudinal de l'arbre et l'axe longitudinal de l'élément de pendule d'une ampleur déterminée. Ceci amène au moins une lame de direction à régler la direction de forage de l'appareil de forage vers une direction verticale et/ou à résister à un déplacement d'éloignement par rapport a une direction verticale de la direction de forage.
