A transmitter transmits road geometry data of a subject road (101) to be informed as well as branch geometry data of a branch (20) with which the subject road (101) intersects or to which the subject road (101) branches. A receiver refers to this branch (20) to determine, on its own digital map, the subject road (101). According to this method, information indicative of the geometries of branching roads and intersecting roads, which may cause erroneous positional determinations, is given as branch geometry data to the receiver, whereby the receiver can avoid any erroneous positional determinations leading to such branching or intersecting roads. The branch geometry (20) allows the subject road (101) and a parallel road to be distinguish from each other, and also allows a deviation in the lengthwise direction of the subject road (101) to be noticed, whereby it is also possible to prevent occurrence of any erroneous positional determination leading to the parallel road or related to the lengthwise direction of the subject road (101).

Un émetteur émet des données relatives à la géométrie d'une route sujet (101) qu'il est nécessaire d'informer, ainsi que des données relatives à la géométrie d'une bifurcation (20) venant couper la route sujet (101) ou rejoignant la route sujet (101). Un récepteur est associé à cette bifurcation (20) en vue de déterminer, sur sa propre carte numérique, la route sujet (101). Conformément au procédé, l'information indicatrice des géométries des routes de bifurcation et d'intersection, susceptibles de causer des déterminations de positions erronées, est fournie en tant que données de géométrie de bifurcation au récepteur, de sorte que le récepteur peut éviter toute détermination de position erronée ayant trait à de telles routes de bifurcation ou d'intersection. La géométrie de la bifurcation (20) permet de distinguer l'une de l'autre la route sujet (101) et une route parallèle, et permet également de spécifier une déviation dans le sens longitudinal de la route sujet (101), de sorte qu'il est possible d'empêcher toute détermination de position erronée conduisant à la route parallèle ou se rapportant à la direction longitudinale de la route sujet (101).
