A blister package is provided, which includes a unitary tray that has at least two gripping towers that grip a blood collection set with a push button and a push button actuated needle safety shield mechanism. The at least two gripping towers have a height greater than the blood collection set such that the push button cannot be depressed when in the unitary tray. The blood collection set prevents the inadvertent actuation of a spring-driven button-actuated safety shield of the blood collection set prior to use of the blood collection set.
