The current software design and operation paradigm has many limitations. The invention provides an entirely new paradigm in which software is designed and implemented using lightweight software agents, each agent performing a single, simple operation, and working together with other agents as a community. These agents may perform such tasks as locating information, accessing databases, transforming information, and performing security operations. The agents may also update themselves when the environment changes, communicate with other agents to address issues it encounters, perform self monitoring and issue a heartbeat to advise its status. As a result, software design and maintenance is much easier and faster, and the resulting software applications are more durable and easier to update.
