ABSTRACT At present fiber optic signs are manufactured almost entirely by hand. In some instances the manufacturer may, if there is a large quantity of identical signs, farm out the drilling to a company that has computerized drilling equipment. All other facets of the manufacturing process are then carried out by hand. The fibers are cut, fed into the holes, glued, and then bundled In this invention, information is entered at a work station, this information is then down loaded to an assembly station that will carry out the following operations. 1. Drill holes with proper spacing and alignment. 2. Feed the fiber into the hole and heat cut it to the approximated length automatically. 3. In the heat cutting process the fiber is automatically mushroomed. 4. Glue automatically applied. 5. Cut the leading end of the next fiber in preparation for the next step. 6. Repeat the process.
