The invention concerns a gaseous diffusion electrode comprising an activated carbon fibre fabric (12) having a first surface coated with a hydrophobic material (14) and a second surface whereon are directly fixed catalyst particles (16) dispersed substantially homogeneously on the fibres. The electrode is useful in an electrochemical cell unit of a fuel cell with proton- exchanging membrane, or in an electrochemical reactor for example for making chlorine-soda.
