A fouling sensing system (42) monitors fouling of a rotary regenerative preheater (10) having a housing (12) and a rotor (14) rotatably mounted therein. An emitter (48) for emitting energy is positioned at one of the faces of the rotor (14) and emits energy through the rotor (14). A sensor (54) is positioned at the other face of the rotor (14) for receiving the energy and generating an output signal indicative of the intensity of the energy.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système de détection d'encrassement (42) qui contrôle l'encrassement d'un réchauffeur régénératif rotatif (10) comprenant un carter (12) et un rotor (14) monté rotatif dans ledit carter. Un émetteur (48) servant à l'émission d'énergie est placé sur l'une des faces du rotor (14) et produit une émission d'énergie à travers le rotor (14). Un capteur (54) est placé sur l'autre face du rotor (14) afin de recevoir l'énergie émise et afin de produire un signal de sortie indiquant l'intensité de cette énergie.
