A catastrophic-event survivable video data recording system that may be employed to monitor vehicles or facilities. The recording system may include a video data compression unit (20) operable to provide compressed digital video data in a format recordable by modified commercially available flight data recording instruments (22). Among other things, the system may be used to monitor vehicles, as well as land-based or sea-based facilities. The system may also be employed as an aid to research into natural and man made phenomena, such as volcanic eruptions, bomb test explosions, etc.
La présente invention concerne un système d'enregistrement de vidéo numérique pouvant s'employer pour surveiller des véhicules ou des installations. Ce système d'enregistrement peut comporter un module de compression d'image numérique (20) servant à fournir de l'image numérisée comprimée dans un format convenant à l'enregistrement par une version modifiée d'instruments d'enregistrement de données de vol (22) du commerce. Ce système peut notamment servir à surveiller des véhicules, ainsi que des installations terrestres ou navalisées.
