Reinforced layers (28, 30) of elastomer for reinforcement of elastomeric materials such as tires, each layer which preferably comprises steel reinforcing cords (36) characterized by the cords (36) having filaments (38, 40, 42 and 44) with an average tensile strength of at least 3650 N/mm2 at .20 mm filament size. While two layer belts are illustrated, other numbers are applicable as well. Also disclosed are tires using high tensile steel reinforcement.
