Instead of having to subscribe to multiple telephone lines for multiple devices that a user has, a module (2) of the present invention can connect each of the user's devices to an outside communications network using the same telephone line. Such multiple inside connections to the outside communication network using the same telephone line is achieved by provisioning within the invention module the appropriate telephone and computer interface units for the user's telephones (4 and 6) and computers (14), and an appropriate network interface unit (16) for connection to the telephone line that connects the invention module to the external communications network. The module of the instant invention is further provisioned with an IP routing submodule that communicatively connects the various interface units together by managing the addressing of the data that traverses between the outside network and the devices of the user, by routing the appropriate data packets to the appropriate devices by means of pseudo internal IP addresses assigned to the various devices of the user. Other components within the module convert those data packets that are a part of a voice signal into the appropriate analog signal for output to the telephone of the user. Conversely, such components convert any analog input from the user into a corresponding digital signal that is packetized and output to the external communications network.
La présente invention évite à un utilisateur de s'abonner à autant de lignes téléphoniques qu'il possède d'appareils, et ce, grâce à un module (2) permettant de raccorder au réseau de communications extérieur l'ensemble de ses appareils via une unique ligne téléphonique. Pour réaliser l'ensemble des raccordements internes au réseau de communications externe via une unique ligne téléphonique on a pourvu le module de l'invention, d'une part d'interfaces téléphoniques et informatiques correspondant aux téléphones (4 et 6) et aux ordinateurs (14) de l'utilisateur, et une unité (16) d'interface de réseau pour la connexion à la ligne téléphonique qui relie le module de l'invention au réseau de communications externe. Le module de la présente invention comprend en outre un sous-module d'acheminement en protocole IP permettant d'établir des communications entre les diverses interfaces. A cet effet, le sous-module gère l'adressage des données transitant entre le réseau externe et les appareils de l'utilisateur, et achemine comme il convient les paquets de données aux appareils au moyen des pseudo-adresses IP internes affectées aux différents appareils de l'utilisateur. D'autres composants du module prennent ceux des paquets de données qui sont intégrés à un signal vocal et les convertissent en des signaux analogiques compatibles avec la sortie téléphonique de l'utilisateur. A l'inverse, ces composants prennent en compte toutes les entrées analogiques de l'utilisateur et les convertissent en un signal numérique correspondant qui est mis en forme de paquet puis produit en sortie à destination du réseau de communications externe.
