Disclosed is medicine for treating atherosclerosis, independent of lipid lowering, in mammals, including humans, in need of treatment by inhibiting progression of an atherogenic lesion or by stabilizing plaque. Such lesion progression inhibition or plaque stabilization is achieved by directly inhibiting chemokine expression leading to excessive inflammatory cell recruitment by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I: (see fig.I) wherein R1 and R2 are the same and methyl or ethyl or they are different and one is methyl or ethyl and the other is hydrogen or benzyl.

L'invention porte sur un médicament pour traiter l'athérosclérose, indépendamment de la restriction lipidique, chez les mammifères, y compris l'homme, par inhibition de la progression d'une lésion athérogène ou par stabilisation de la plaque. Ce type d'inhibition ou de stabilisation est rendu possible par inhibition directe de l'expression de la chémokine, responsable d'un recrutement excessif de cellules inflammatoires, grâce à l'administration d'une quantité thérapeutique d'un composé de formule I (voir fig. I), où R1 et R2 sont les mêmes, soit un méthyle ou un éthyle, ou différents, l'un étant un méthyle ou un éthyle, et l'autre un hydrogène ou un benzyle.
