A topical composition comprising an antiinflammatory glucocorticoid and a nucleoside analogue antiviral agent in a pharmaceutical carrier characterized in that the carrier comprises about 15 to about 25 weight % propylene glycol and about 10 to about 25 weight percent isopropyl C12-C22 alkanoic ester. The compositions have utility in the treatment or prophylaxis of herpesvirus infections and exhibit superior antiviral and therapeutic efficacy and an improved shelf life.

L'invention concerne une composition topique renfermant un glucocorticoïde anti-inflammatoire et un agent antiviral d'un analogue nucléosidique dans un excipient pharmaceutique, lequel contient environ entre 15 et 25 % en poids de propylène glycol, et approximativement entre 10 et 25 % en poids d'ester alkanoïque C12-C22 d'isopropyle. Les compositions de cette invention, qui peuvent être utilisées pour traiter ou prévenir les infections à herpèsvirus, présentent une efficacité antivirale et thérapeutique améliorée et une durée de conservation prolongée.
