A sash window counterbalance arrangement (16) for counterbalancing the weight of a sash window (2,4). The arrangement comprising a sash window jamb (10,12) with a channel (9) defined within the sash window jamb (10, 12 ), the channel having a rear wall (11) and a pair of side walls (13,14a,14b), a sash window shoe (28) slidable in said channel (9), a spring arrangement connected at one end to said sash window shoe (28), and a spring support mounting (24) fitted within the said channel (9) to support the spring arrangement. The spring support mounting (24) including a locating peg (46) projecting from the spring support mounting (24) to engage a locating aperture (40) defined within one of the channel walls (11) and locate the spring support mounting (24) along the channel (9), and a self tapping screw fastener engaging the spring support mounting (24) and one of said channel walls (11) to secure the spring support mounting (24) to and within the channel (9).
