Fecal incontinence and anal itch can be treated by administration, more particularly by local application to the anus, of an n adrenergic Blocker, nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, prostaglandin F2.alpha., dopamine, morphine, .beta.-blockers, and 5-Hydroxytryptamine. The patients who benefit most from the invention are those who have a normal or low maximum anal resting pressure and a structurally intact internal anal sphincter muscle, and patients who have had major bowel resection and reanastomosis.

L'invention concerne le traitement de l'incontinence fécale et du prurit anal par administration, et plus particulièrement par application locale à l'anus, d'un adrénolytique alpha , d'un inhibiteur de monoxyde d'azote synthétase, de prostaglandine F2 alpha , de dopamine, de morphine, de beta -bloquants et de 5-Hydroxytryptamine. L'invention bénéficie notamment aux patients présentant une pression anale maximale au repos normale ou basse et un muscle du sphincter anal interne structurellement intact, ainsi qu'aux patients ayant subi une résection intestinale importante et une réanastomose.
